Brenda Holloway got me thinking about this classic song from 1976. Undoubtedly one of the coolest songs to come out of the disco era. Yeah, I know it’s on that soundtrack.. but i think it’s okay to admit we all saw that movie and the 90’s are cool now, right? i’m all about euphoric builds and this has one of my favourite sweeps into a chorus ever.

this is a lost Motown single by Brenda Holloway. I came across it over ten years ago when it was played by Chris Geddes, then of Belle & Sebastian, while he was djing at the very first ATP, The Bowlie Weekender. Subsequently tracked it down on a compilation of lost Nothern Soul Singles. It’s a lost great. Brenda Holloway had the potential to be a huge star and I never understood why this song was shelved

I don’t know why I’ve suddenly become obsessed with The National. They’re not the kind of band I would normally listen to. Most of the time, I’m music first, then lyrics but with The National, there’s something about the lyrics that really gets to me.

I’m really enjoying reading the New York Trilogy at the moment. I’ve just finished reading City Of Glass and i’ve started into Ghosts. Both are very unusual takes on the detective novel where the characters become lost within the mysterious cases they are investigating.

Spent most of the evening listening to this album on rotation with the new ultra limited Actress Remix of Panda Bear’s Surfer’s Hymn on vinyl. I have been enjoying playing ukulele over both these records, sitting with the window open and feet on the window sill.
